This Kenya tour includes 2 nights in the Maasai Mara National Game Reserve, 1 night at Lake Naivasha and 2 nights in The Amboseli National Park.

Maasai Mara is probably the most famous of the reserves & is located in Kenya’s south western corner and boasts an astonishing amount of game. The national reserve is unfenced, with the Mara being bounded in the east by the Ngama Hills and in the west by the Oloololo or Siria Escarpment. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers and attract many & varied predators. Not only is this a great place in which to find game, but also the wide green-gold savannahs spotted with thorn trees make it ideal for photography. A Masai Mara safari offers both spectacular scenery & unforgettable game viewing and with a large selection of private lodges is a popular option for a Kenya tour.

Amboseli National Park has historically supported both wildlife and the cattle the Maasai people own & herd. Due to the large amount of water that is fed from Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s greatest mountain, the apparently dry Amboseli which was Kenya’s first game sanctuary, is able to support its abundant wildlife. The grasslands in the park are lush & inviting to the wildlife when made green by the rains and the park also contains three major swamps.

African Elephants in Maasai Mara

Day 2 – Amboseli National Park
Spend the entire day game driving in Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is a top destination in Kenya for wildlife. Indeed, one of the classic images of East Africa is that of a herd of elephant strolling across the plains with the snow-capped peak
of Kilimanjaro in the background. It is to catch this sight that people flood to Amboseli National Park. While Kilimanjaro is actually across the border in Tanzania, Amboseli has a perfect view of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, rising an impressive 5895 metres above the plains.  (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Overnight  Camp: Kimana Camp or similar
Overnight  Permanent Tented Camp: Kibo Camp or similar
Overnight Lodge: Amboseli Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 3 – Amboseli National Park to Lake Naivasha
The best time to view the majestic mountain is at dawn, when the clouds lift and the light is clear and soft. We will take an early morning game drive to witness the African sunrise lighten the majestic mountain, distributing its golden rays to the dry savannah of Amboseli National Park. It’s a very good photo opportunity. After this game drive we return to the camp for breakfast before departing for Lake Naivasha.  (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Overnight Camp: Fish Eagle Inn (campsite) or similar
Overnight Permanent Tented Camp: Fish Eagle Inn or similar
Overnight Lodge: Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 4 – Lake Naivasha
Today there is opportunity to go cycling in Hells Gate National Park, take a boat trip to Crescent Island, sail on Lake Oloiden, or take a walk in the village. In the afternoon, you may choose to take high tea at Elsamere, where Joy and George
Adamson once lived. Joy and George spent much of their lives working with lions and studying their behaviour. Elsa was the most famous lion, about whom the movie “Born Free” was about. Elsamere looks out over Lake Naivasha, providing a beautiful setting to enjoy afternoon tea.  (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)

Overnight Permanent Tented Camp: Fish Eagle Inn or similar
Overnight Lodge: Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 5 – Lake Naivasha to Maasai Mara National Game Reserve
Drive to the world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve arriving in time for lunch. Maasai Mara, Kenya’s greatest wildlife reserve, is without a doubt Africa’s most famous safari destination. The Maasai Mara Ecosystem is where over two million wildebeest and zebra migrate annually. It also holds one of the highest lion densities in the world, which is why it the home of the BBC wildlife channel’s Big Cat Diary. Other game includes: leopard, cheetah, buffalo, rhino, elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion, plains game, crocodile and small mammals including mongoose, hyrax, dik dik and the nocturnal porcupine. Enjoy a late afternoon game drive followed by dinner.  (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Overnight  Camp: Aruba Camp or similar
Overnight  Permanent Tented Camp: Aruba Camp or similar

Overnight Lodge: Mara Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 6 – Maasai Mara National Game Reserve
Spend a full day game driving in the Maasai Mara. The abundance and variety of game in this reserve is nothing short of amazing. Nearly every mammal can be seen in the Maasai Mara, including various antelopes, scavengers like hyena and
vultures, and all the cats (lion, cheetah and leopard). Sighting a leopard needs luck more than just being there, but lions are abundant and there are excellent chances for spotting cheetah. The hippo pool is a popular spot to watch out for hippos; with luck, you may catch crocodile basking on the rocks. Elephants, buffalo, the Maasai giraffe, wildebeest and the common zebra abound. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.  (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)
Overnight  Camp: Aruba Camp or similar
Overnight  Permanent Tented Camp: Aruba Camp or similar

Overnight Lodge: Mara Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 7 – Maasai Mara National Game Reserve to Nairobi
Start the day with an optional early morning hot air balloon flight, including full champagne breakfast in the savannah, or proceed on another game drive. Before heading back to Nairobi there is the option to visit a Maasai village to get an insight
into their culture and traditions. (Breakfast & lunch)

Amboseli Sopa Lodge ★★★
Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930’s, inspired Ernest Hemingway’s unforgettable stories ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ and ‘The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ which were turned into more than successful feature lms in the late 1940’s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge. While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world’s most renowned African tribe.

Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge ★★★
Set in one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to our
resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave
the lake every night to come and trim the grass on our expansive lawns. With Sopa’s traditional and conscientious care for
the environment, we carefully positioned all the buildings on our property so we did not have to fell any of the many trees
there. As a result of this, we had to come up with a radically innovative and artistic design for the main public area building.

Mara Sopa Lodge ★★★★
Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their centre. Airy and spacious with an adjacent gift shop, the area – which incorporates a guest information desk – is decorated with warm earth colours and lit by an enormous, A can calabash chandelier.
